Cable and Wireless  TV rebroadcast service has moved from strength to strength over the past few years, starting out firstly in 1995 with the introduction of only one unencrypted channel that aired the ‘hallmark’ channel. This then progressed to a second channel that shared time with the news and sports channels.

Today Cable and Wireless currently rebroadcast around the island via a 3 channel UHF system using a time sharing arrangement.

The TVRO and terrestrial systems receives DSTV broadcast that is provided by Multichoice in South Africa. It is encrypted and then a selection of programs is rebroadcast to all districts on the island. These programs are encrypted using multicipher encryption, then rebroadcast around the island via a 3 channel UHF system and then decoded at the customers home using the multicipher addressable decoders.

The current channel allocations to the customers are as follows:

  • Channel 1 - time shared between 1 of  7 Supersport channels
  • Channel 2 - MNET West, Movie Magic 1 & 2. Disney & Discovery
  • Channel 3 - BBC News, BBC Entertainment & Discovery

From these channels customers are now able to keep in touch with the outside world by viewing the latest in news, sports and other entertaining events. Some programs that are viewed includes the BBC news, soccer leagues, world cup events, TV series such as Friends, ER, CSI etc and premiere movies and various talk shows.
